Latest Natura Pet Recall

Natura Pet, a Proctor and Gamble company, is recalling all Innova, California Natural, EVO, Healthwise, Mother Nature and Karma dry pet food and biscuit/bar/treat products with expiration dates prior to June 10, 2014.

A single positive Salmonella test resulted after FDA testing on product manufactured April 3. While this would normally indicate products manufactured over a few days be recalled, Natura Pet has made the decision to recall all products in the marketplace as an additional precaution.

March 18 of this year was the first recall in Natura Pet’s 21 year history and the fifth expansion of that first recall. The recalls have not included canned food.

Recalls in the pet food industry are described as “voluntary.” The 2011 Food Safety Modernization Act allows the FDA the authority to regulate producers but so far has only been used to persuade pet food manufactures to implement voluntary recalls.
Healthy Pet and Tomlinson’s Pet Store have pulled these products from their shelves.

  1. Good information – thanks for posting this.

Due to Proctor & Gamble’s animal testing policies our family has boycotted their products for years, but even many like-minded people might have no idea that the products noted above ultimately contribute to P&G’s bottom line – and to animal torture. Here’s a list of P&G brands on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Procter_%26_Gamble_brands The list on the P&G web site is incomplete – it doesn’t even list Natura; in fact, no mention is made of P&G on Natura’s “about us” page. Not until you look on their employment page and notice the @pg.com e-mail address…

I was surprised to find out Proctor & Gamble purchased Natura Pet in 2010 and my disgust for P&G was the reason that information appeared in the first line of the post. Thank you for supplying the brands list.
